"Why are you insulting people who have had Malaria. it is a life threatining conditon/disease and is not something you should not make a joke out of. Cheryl Cole nearly died because of Malaria, now i think you should take this picture off your site as it is an insult to people who have or had Malaria. If i see any such insults to people again i shall report it. Thank you"
As much as I dislike Cheryl Cole I am not insulting her or making a joke of Malaria. It's more a take on celebrity endorsments and advertising companys.
Agreed Imbue, I see that as a rip on Celeb Endorsements..not Malaria..but that is the beauty of street art!
ReplyDeleteDon't see any insult here... it's just a joke, no ??? On ads & celebs, may be ??
ReplyDeleteTo me, the insult is that malaria is killing one child every 45 seconds in Africa and nobody cares; then Cheryl Cole get malaria and everybody speak about it !!
Let me tell you, the day malaria will hit the western world and more and more people (like Cheryl Cole) will get infected, it will be a step forward against malaria and a great day for Africa.
Take this last example, since 2003, Africans can enjoy cheap generic HIV drugs... but in December 2010, the pharmaceutical industry allied with EU governments and WTO tried to stop the production of generic drugs in India
No drugs for the poor of Africa, Brazil, etc. !! And, believe me, when I heard the news on BBC Africa, I tried to look for a press article on Google and guess what, not a single article (excepted for Medecin Sans Frontiere) !!
Letter with clear explanation - http://donttradeourlivesaway.wordpress.com/2010/12/07/letter-to-ms-carla-bruni-sarkozy-by-naz-foundation-india-trust/
The good news is that India court rejected the lab patent claim - http://news.google.com/news/story?pz=1&cf=all&ned=en_ke&hl=en&q=India+hiv&ncl=dHcgIxhV81WjVGMQvSdPC_t3j0uGM - thus poor people will still get their treatment and will not die of AIDS. For western people, sadly, no choice they will have to pay high price drugs because these generics drugs are not available in their country - Doomed by politicians and labs and stupid patent laws !!
So, luckily for the labs, there is still a market in western countries :) and that's why they never took time to find a cure for Malaria.
So instead, Mr XXXX, instead of trying to report ephemeral jokes made by street artist, use your free time to fight to save live and fight the real bad ones of this world...
A guy living in Africa
